	How is your collective~~ wire-body today?

What is the sound of interference~~ in your community?

How might a shy sound be amplified ~ without losing its softness?

Tinja is a multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker with a focus on creative documentary-making. She uses film, pirate radio, letter writing, and printmaking as investigative tools to examine how intimacy and power are shaped temporally by material conditions. Field research becomes a way of staying with others, of building relationships that make room for a radical redistribution of nurture.

Her current work turns toward matriarchal orcas, earth-stewarding nuns, and queer motorcyclists—communities that suggest other systems of orientation and exchange. Held within a quiet, distinctive humor, the work gestures toward the fallibility of egos, of order, and of process. Exploring these self-determined systems of care and communication within and against dominant frameworks, her work aims to open up worlds of collectivity, care and collectivizing intimacy.
Ruusuvuori’s work has been shown at film festivals such as Visions du Réel, Toronto Hot Docs, Clermont-Ferrand, and Camden International Film Festival. She was a fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown in 2022 and 2023, and participated in the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in 2025. She lives and works in Finland, where she takes part in community organizing in her neighborhood of&#38;nbsp;Pispala.

Earth Sisters (working title) is a 16mm video installation and short film centered on a community of Catholic nuns in rural USA, who devote their lives to the study of tending the earth and learning interspecies communication. Through movement-based practices, the nuns engage in embodied dialogue with animals, plants, and the forest they inhabit, cultivating a reciprocal relationship with the 16-acre ecosystem under their care.

Untitled (burned rubber on asphalt, 2018)

&#38;nbsp;2019documentary film, 20 min HD Norwegian, Finnish, English
cinematographer: Pietari Peltolaeditor: Inka Lahtisound designer: Juuso Oksalaproducer: Marja Pihlaja / Aalto ARTSdirector: Tinja Ruusuvuori

In a remote Norwegian village the weaving roads have become the subject of controversy. Assuming the role of detective, the documentary investigates the bewildering phenomena of car skid marks and their mysterious appearance. Winding, looping, curving, the hypnotising patterns reveal unexpected frictions in the village, as well as prompting the villagers to reflect on their sense of beauty.

A portrait of a remote Northern place – where isolation and boredom breed an imaginative escape that turns everyday vehicles into instruments of art. Through an investigative approach the filmmaker elevates the activity from an immature pastime to a creative expression worthy of an artful consideration.
- Jury of Tampere Film Festival 2019

		<description>Wishing Well
(2025)
micro-FM radio stationSkowhegan, Maine&#38;nbsp;Wishing Well was a participatory radio work I did with Lara Castro Lema: Over nine weeks we invited stories of unrequited love from the Skowhegan community, transformed them into sounds, and returned them in an intimate one-night transmission from an old spring well. 60 people gathered on blankets in the nearby field, listening together in the spirit of shared romance.&#38;nbsp;well radio was a micro-FM radio station that I operated from a well on the grounds of Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Reviving the well’s role as a site of gathering and gossip, it hosted whispers, readings, screamings, and collective listening throughout the summer 2025.
With its short range and fragile signal, well radio emphasized proximity, attentiveness, and intimacy.Listen to well radio

Letter to radio uncertainty
Radio performance in At Home With (7) — a home exhibition curated by Sini Pelkki and Magnús Logi Kristinsson.

A collecive love letter transmitted through a momentarily occupied FM frequency, sent from the bedroom and received by the audience in the living room.

Provincetown has always lived sideways to certainty~~

Grounded-- Pulsating
Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center, April 2024

During the 1980s, Provincetown became a safe place for people living with HIV, and its shoreline keeps shifting under climate change and the tides. It knows what shared uncertainty feels like.
In the winter of 2023–2024, radio uncertainty broadcast from my studio at the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center, open to the town’s winter community: queer residents and fishermen. The station aimed to accommodate the act of “falling between frequencies.”
Grounded-- Pulsating presents these signals from the collective, translated into video, prints, home-made radio receivers*, and a love letter to radio uncertainty.&#38;nbsp;

		<description>

	Waterfall Tongue
USF Visningsrommet, March 2025
Waterfall Tongue was a collaboration between tinja ruusuvuori and gentian rhosa. The exhibition explored themes of grief, rage and voiceless through the act of cross-border communication by screaming into waterfalls. The artists considered the social and gendered conditions that limit loud expressions of rage and sorrow, finding allyship with the waterfall as a sonic environment charged with movement and power, where the screaming voice can find release.

The exhibition included a public screaming workshop with hardcore vocalist Oda Braanaas,&#38;nbsp;where we learned to care for our throats in a long-term grief and to scream together in a sustainable way.

Where movement of people is restrained, goods can travel more freely than ever. The sound of karaoke drifts out from the inside of an enormous container ship. Logbook notes of longing and sympathy felt by seafarers towards migrants.
