Wishing Well

experimental mini-FM radio station
Skowhegan, Maine

Wishing Well was a mini-FM radio station I operated from an old spring well on the grounds of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine. The well was revived as a gathering place during the summer program—hosting readings, improvised interviews and small sonic experiments. In collaboration with Lara Castro Lema, it also became a participatory radio performance: over nine weeks we invited stories of unrequited love and heartbreak from the Skowhegan community, reshaped them into sound pieces, and returned them in a one-night transmission in the spirit of community romance.
